What is Functional Nutrition?

Functional nutrition is a personalized, root-cause approach to health that looks beyond just what you eat. It focuses on how food interacts with your body, your lifestyle, and overall well-being. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, functional nutrition considers your unique needs, health history, genetics, environment, and lifestyle to create a tailored coaching plan to support optimal health. Your health matters to me.

At its core, functional nutrition is about using food as medicine to restore balance, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s natural healing processes. It is not just about managing symptoms—It is about understanding and addressing the underlying imbalances that may be causing them.

“Cheryl Harris masterfully and gently guided my husband and me to a way of eating for better heart and everything health. What a pleasure working with her—such practical and inspiring insights!”

--Cheryl Schnitzer, Ph.D.

A functional nutrition approach may include:

  • Managing food sensitivities and intolerances
  • Supporting gut health and digestion
  • Balancing blood sugar and hormones
  • Reducing inflammation through targeted methodologies
  • Optimizing nutrient intake based on your body’s needs

It is a holistic way to approach health—because what you eat matters, but how your body processes and responds to food matters even more.

"If you're not working with Cheryl, you're missing out!! She embodies the perfect blend of professionalism and compassion, with warmth, genuine concern, and exceptional skill consistently at the heart of her practice. She's an expert and a treasure in the field! I know that I am fully heard, respected, and supported in a non-judgement zone at all times. This creates a strong sense of trust, which only deepens her ability to help me. I have several health issues that Cheryl is addressing, and because of her willingness to always go above and beyond, I finally feel hopeful for the first time in a long time."
